Birkihlíð is a large holiday house in North Iceland, that can house up to six people. It is a former farmhouse and has a beautiful view of the surrounding farm fields and stunning mountains. Only a few minutes drive from Waterfall of the Gods, Goðafoss. An excellent choice for those who want to do daily excursions in this area of Iceland.
The house has three bedrooms, all on the same level. Bathroom: with bathtub/shower. The rather large kitchen has a variety of equipment, a microwave and a dishwasher. In the living room, you will find a TV, DVD and a radio/CD-Player.
Outside, there is a big yard and older parts of the former farm, not in use anymore. You will have a good idea of how the Icelandic farms look and used to look like. You are allowed to fish in the river. In front of the house, there is a private parking space.

Ljósavatnsskarð is a valley between Akureyri and Lake Mývatn and here it is where you find the wonder of Goðafoss - Iceland's whitest waterfall. There is also a small shop with souvenirs, a local art, craft and food market and WC facilities.
Ljósavatnsskarð valley is also the access route if you want to go to Bárðardalur and Sprengisandur in the highlands. A vehicle suitable for highland roads is necessary.
Akureyri is ca 25 km west from here, situated at the base of Eyjafjörður Fjord. It is the biggest town in North Iceland with a population of ca 19.000 and is often referred to as Capital the of North. Akureyri is a center of commerce with a harbour and airport for domestic flights. You find a number of supermarkets, restaurants and gas stations here, as well as swimming pools and interesting museums and other sights.
